- When trying yoga for the first time, be sure to try different class styles and teachers. You may find you enjoy one style over another.
- Wear comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement.
- Arrive 15 minutes before your first class to register with the front desk staff.
- Bring a towel, water bottle, and a yoga mat. (If you do not have one, we have them to purchase or borrow. However, we highly recommend purchasing your own for hygienic reasons.)
- Most importantly, tell the teacher it is your first class and mention any pre-existing injuries or physical limitations you may have.
- When in class, rest when needed. Your teacher will show you a resting pose that is used in all yoga classes.
- Do not expect perfection, simply enjoy your first class.
- Feel free to ask questions at the end of class, or silently wave your teacher over during class if you feel any pain, discomfort, or confusion.
- At the end of class, we close with the word "Namaste". Namaste, simply translates as "I see". It can also mean "the divine in me sees and recognizes the divine in you". It is a traditional greeting used in India even today.
- We offer a Restorative Yoga class for anyone with back injuries or physical limitations. This class is offered Monday and Wednesdays at 10:45am.
- Recommended classes for new students: Vinyasa Level 1 & 2 classes are suitable is you would like a fluid, moving class that focuses on the breath; The Community Yoga classes are gentle moving classes centered around the breath; Yoga for EveryBODY and Restorative Yoga are great if you have physical limitations or prefer to start at the very beginnings of a yoga practice.
