Walking Workshop - Gait Therapy (all levels) - Saturday, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
How we move is what determines our muscular and joint health. Each time we walk, sit, stand or exercise will make us stronger, weaker, or more balanced. In Walking Yoga - Gait Therapy, we look at how we move from the ground up, starting at our feet. By noticing our physical habits and making improvements on these habits, we can make our body stronger, more efficient, more flexible, and heal injuries. This system of walking has numerous benefits from healing plantar faciitis to back pain. By becoming aware of our personalized way of walking and improving it, we can heal our body every day with every step we take.
The Walking Yoga - Gait therapy workshop is a great group introduction to this system. In this two hour workshop we touch upon the main principles of the work and Jamie gives specific exercises for you to take home with you to practice. In this group setting we practice walking to create new habits and ways of moving. Cost: $40
Form to Fluidity (all levels) - Sunday, 10:45am - 12:45am
Vinyasa Flow Yoga, linking movement and breath, is an inspriing practice and a powerful means of change. In order to fully experience this moving meditation we must also have a strong physical foundation in the poses.
In this workhop/flow class, we will begin to breathe and move within the template of Sun Salutes, taking time in each pose to align and find the form. This is our foundation. From here we’ll flow in to fluidity - this is where the vinyasa becomes a moving meditation - moving on the breath and allowing the practice to transform us. Cost: $40
Private Instruction - appointment only
While Jamie is here, she will be offering private yoga and walking sessions. Her knowledge of anatomy can help you refine your yoga practice and heal current injuries. Cost: $100 per hour
About Jamie: Jamie Elmer taught her Vinyasa-based flow classes and workshops for six years at Exhale, Center for Sacred Movement in Venice, California. As a child Jamie discovered what made her most happy: movement. A back injury led her deeper in to her yoga practice and inspired her to simultaneously become certified in Pilates and complete yoga Teacher Training with Max Strom in 2001. Jamie has also completed teacher trainings with Erich Schiffman and Shiva Rea.
Today, she teaches Applied Anatomy for Yoga in Max's 200-hour teacher trainings as well as leads her own teacher training courses which place an emphasis on teaching yoga to beginners. Jamie is also certified in Sherry Brourman's work as a Brourman Gait Therapy Practitioner. Jamie leads trainings and workshops nationally.

Yin Yoga: Finding Solid Ground with Kelly
October 16, 2010 @ North Main
As the seasons shift, it can be difficult to maintain solid footing in our life and relationships. Classes in September and October will balance the Earth energy, the force responsible for staying grounded without becoming bogged down in self pity or worry.
The fiery energy of Summer can pull too much energy upward in our body, leaving us anxious and spinning mentally. Meditations throughout class will draw the energy down the spine, rebuilding a connection with the Earth--the element connected to Indian Summer or any transitional phase in life. Grounding visualizations can be especially helpful for those affected by the academic calendar, as things move into high gear with the start of another semester.
Our Earth element can relate to our sense of home and security as well. When that sense of well being is threatened, we can become overwhelmed with self-focus and worry. Breathing techniques designed to center the mind can bring balance to our life and increase our compassion for others around us.
Yin yoga is a series of seated stretches held for minutes at a time in a relaxed or collapsed manner in order to stretch the connective tissue and the energy pathways embedded in it. Yin can soothe the nervous system, detoxify the emotions and re-lubricate the joints. This practice may not be appropriate for those with recent ligament or joint injuries.
